ISO C++ Meeting in Wroclaw, Poland 2024

November 18, 2024

In November, our Software Engineer, Jonathan Müller, attended the ISO C++ committee meeting in Wrocław, Poland. This pivotal gathering marked the last opportunity to introduce major features to the upcoming C++26 standard before the general feature freeze in the spring.

Couple of significant outcomes from Jonathan’s report include the progress on ranges and reflection. Regarding ranges, Jonathan co-chaired SG 9, the study group for the C++ range library, where they identified critical gaps in the library, particularly concerning the concept of sized ranges.

Additionally, reflection made notable progress, with the major issue of syntax ambiguity being resolved, bringing reflection closer to being a standard feature for C++26. However, Jonathan’s own proposal to minimize standard library dependencies in reflection was not accepted, highlighting the ongoing debate in the committee.

We are proud to contribute to the ongoing development of the C++ standard and grateful to have been part of the discussions in Wrocław.
