CppCon in Aurora, USA 2024
September 15, 2024
We are pleased to be the video sponsors of the largest C++ conference in the world, CppCon, again this year. CppCon is a weeklong conference that takes place in Aurora, Colorado, USA. The conference is organized by the C++ community, for the community and a project of the Standard C++ Foundation.
Two our speakers presented their new talks; “Reusable code, reusable data structures” by Senior Software Engineer Sebastian Theophil and “Back to Basics: Functional Programming in C++” by Software Engineer Jonathan Müller.
This is what Jonathan had to say about the conference:
"I’ve attended CppCon, the biggest C++ conference in the US. With 4 tracks in parallel there are too many to recap, so here are some highlights. I highly recommend Ben Deane’s talk “Message Handling with Boolean Algebra”, where he presented a nice metaprogramming problem and how to solve that using logical theorems – I’m always a fan of this sort of thing. David Sankel also presented a new library initiative in “The Beman Project: Bringing Standard Libraries to the Next Level”. The Beman project aims to prevent the “direct to standard” mindset some library proposals had in the past, by providing a testbed for standard library development, just like Boost used to be in the C++0x era. Walter E. Brown gave a fun talk about “Irksome C++” where he presented some weird C++ features he doesn’t like, and there were many talks about reflection. Daveed Vandevoorde’s closing keynote “Gazing Beyond Reflection for C++26” was the most inspiring one of them. He showed what’s possible with the current reflection proposals and extensions for code generation and attribute reflection in really cool demos. My colleague Sebastian Theophil also gave a talk “Reusable code, reusable data structures” about the various ways of generic programming in C++ and I myself had my very first back to basics talk “Functional Programming in C++” where I gave my attempt of explaining monads to people. Over all, it was a very exciting conference!"
